Quarantine - To move an infected file, such as a virus, into a file on the computer where it cannot cause harm.  Some security software such as anti-virus systems comes with quarantine options.

Query - A specific request made to database or other file management system.  A simple example of this is a search engine on the Internet used to find a specific topic or web site.  The user is “querying” the online database to find what they want.

RAT - Remote Administration Tool.  RAT is a Trojan horse that allows a hacker to take control of a remote computer.

Real Time - Real time is a level of computer responsiveness where a user senses immediate response to a request or is given information and data at the same time as it is released.  A real-time security warning alerts a user to new threats as they emerge.

Reboot - To re-start a computer.  To reload the operating system into memory.  Many computer programs require you to reboot after installation.

Red Flags Rule - The expression “red flag” signals “Danger: Be alert to problems ahead.”  Under the Red Flags Rule, which first went  into effect on January 1, 2008, certain businesses and organizations are required to spot and heed the red flags that often can be the telltale signs of identity theft.  To comply with the new Red Flags Rule – enforced by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the federal band regulatory agencies, and the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) – businesses must develop a written “red flags program” to prevent, detect, and minimize the damage from identity theft.  The Red Flags Rule applies to anyone who arranges for or extends credit or payment terms, or who provides products or services and bills or invoices the customer.
